Choosing a replacement watch strap
This guide helps you understand which criteria to compare before you buy a product. We do not claim to have tested any product, and the guide contains no price or stock information.
Checklist
- Measure the lug width: the distance between the lugs where the strap attaches to the case. The new strap must have exactly the same width; Jowissa, for example, offers widths such as 12, 15, 18, 20 and 22 mm, depending on the model.
- Check the attachment as well as the width. Quick-release straps can be swapped by hand without tools; other straps and bracelets may need a spring-bar tool or a watchmaker.
- Choose the material for how you wear the watch: leather looks classic and is comfortable but should be kept away from water; stainless steel is durable and easy to wipe clean; rubber, silicone and nylon suit sport and casual wear.
- Read the material line in the specifications carefully: a "croco-style" strap is not necessarily crocodile. Jowissa's croco-style straps, for instance, are calf leather embossed with a crocodile pattern.
- Check the length for your wrist. A watch should sit securely without pinching, with room to slip a finger under the strap. For larger wrists, look for XXL leather straps or extra bracelet links. Have steel and ceramic bracelets sized professionally: Jowissa shortens them free of charge for orders on jowissa.com, and a local watch dealer may also offer this.
- Compare the clasp or buckle colour and finish listed in the specifications (for example silver, gloss polished) with your watch case so the two match.
- Plan the care: leather straps should not be washed with water — use a suitable leather-care product — while metal can be wiped with a soft, dry cloth. If you are unsure which strap fits, send the brand your watch's reference number and a clear photo before ordering.
Before you head to the store
Confirm the exact model number, whether it can be delivered to your address, the final total price, shipping costs, the return period and the seller's reliability directly with the store. For cross-border purchases, taxes, customs and warranty terms may differ.
